David’s Charge to Solomon and the Temple Plan

1 Chronicles 28:1-21

Chapter 28
1 And David assembled all the rulers of Israel: the rulers of the tribes, the rulers of the divisions serving the king, the rulers of the thousands and the rulers of the hundreds, the rulers of all the property and livestock of the king and his sons, with the eunuchs and the mighty men, and every mighty man of strength, to Jerusalem. 2 Then King David stood up and said, "Hear me, my brothers and my people. I had it in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the LORD and for the footstool of our God. And I have prepared to build." 3 And God said to me, "You shall not build a house for my name, for you are a man of wars and you have shed blood." 4 And the LORD God of Israel chose me from all my father's house to be king over Israel forever. For he chose Judah as the royal tribe, and from the house of Judah, the house of my father, and among my father's sons, he was pleased with me to make me king over all Israel. 5 And from all my sons—for the LORD has given me many sons—he chose my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel. 6 And he said to me, "Solomon your son—he will build my house and my courtyards, for I have chosen him to me for a son, and I will be to him for a father." 7 And I will establish his kingdom forever if he strengthens himself to do my commandments and my judgments as on this day. 8 And now, before the eyes of all Israel, the assembly of the LORD, and in the ears of our God, keep and seek all the commandments of the LORD your God so that you may possess the good land and leave it as an inheritance for your sons after you forever. 9 And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a complete heart and a desirous soul, because every heart seeking the LORD and every formation of thoughts understands: if you seek him he will be found by you, and if you forsake him he will reject you forever. 10 See now that the LORD has chosen you to build the temple for the Sanctuary; be strong and do! 11 And David gave to Solomon his son the pattern of the temple and its houses and its storerooms and its upper rooms and its inner chambers and the house of the atonement cover. 12 and the pattern of all that was by the Spirit with him for the courts of the temple of the LORD and for all the chambers around, for the treasuries of the house of God and for the treasuries of the holy things. 13 and for the divisions of the priests and the Levites and for all the work of the service of the house of the LORD and for all the vessels of the service of the house of the LORD. 14 for gold, by weight for gold, for every vessel of work and work, and for silver, by weight for every vessel of work and work. 15 and weight for the gold lampstands and their lamps—gold in weight of lampstand and lampstand and its lamps—and for the silver lampstands in weight to lampstand and its lamps according to the work of lampstand and lampstand 16 and the gold—weight for the showbread tables, for table and table, and silver for the silver tables. 17 and the forks and the bowls and the cups of pure gold, and for the bowls of gold by weight for a bowl and bowl, and for the bowls of silver by weight for a bowl and bowl. 18 and for the altar of incense refined gold by weight, and for the pattern of the chariot of the cherubim gold for the judicial decisions and overshadowing ones over the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD. 19 All in writing from the hand of the LORD upon me—he made wise all the works of the pattern. 20 And David said to Solomon his son, "Be strong and courageous and do. Do not fear and do not be dismayed, for the LORD God, the God of your people, will not forsake you and will not abandon you until the finishing of all the work of the service of the house of the LORD." 21 And see, the divisions of the priests and the Levites for all service of the house of God, and your people for all temple service, for every willing one in wisdom for all work, and the rulers and all the people for all your words.
